Mr. Fix-It by Kiernan Kelly

Blurb:

Max is having a hard week that ends when he comes home to an empty house and a mess left by his ex-lover. Max can’t catch a break even then. Thanks to a computer glitch, Max finds out that he’s the accidental owner of a perfectly lust-worthy android instead of the robotic vacuum cleaner he really ordered. But, when Max pushes the android’s buttons, the android returns the favor. Max finds out he’s got buttons he didn’t know about, buttons that his new friend is ready to push again and again.

Review:

In the year 2148, robotics are common and the personal touch of customer service is a distant, historical memory. So Max realizes when he is faced with a non-returnable robot who shows up at his door, instead of the vacuum cleaner he ordered. It’s the cherry on a bad day which doesn’t help that his ex left “Fucking workaholic!" lovingly scrawled across the pristine white wall of their bedroom.

In this hilarious turn of technology, Kelly once again shows that she has a fabulous sense of humor and definitely leans to the side of center. Which way she leans, well, that could sway like a chime in a tornado, but she never fails to delight when giving reign to an imagination that only occasionally goes awry. At times, Max’s antics with his robot are laugh out loud funny, and although occasionally predictable, the humor of the situation and the characters carry off a highly enjoyable tale.

From Max’s struggles with automated operators to refusing to read the owner’s manual (he’s not an owner damnit!), to the interesting quirk at the end, Kelly offers 15 pages of fast paced, sexy fun. If you like quirky humor with a dash of hot sex, you’ll enjoy this offering.  Once you’re done with this, head over to the author’s LJ where you can find even more delicious examples of an agile mind that should be supervised at all times. Be careful what you say though, it’s likely to end up as the next story.
