New Rainbow Reviews

New Rainbow Reviews up early today! So go check them out.. I have my usual spattering and it’s been a better week so that’s good. They include:

Eyes of Desire 2: A Deaf GLBT Reader by Raymond Luczak (editor)

In the Closet by Clare London

Reunion by Vic Winter

Spoken by Sean Michael

Strictly Halloween by Stephanie Vaughan

As for my favorites of the week they include the following. Angels of the Deep was a rare 5 star review for me and it was fabulous. Due to the inherent mystery I couldn’t tell much about it but I managed to find something to say. I highly recommend it.

A Roof for the Rain by Katrina Strauss

Without Sin by J. Tomas

Angels of the Deep by Kirby Crow

  1. Hi, I just wanted to leave an informal thanks here for your review on my story ^_^. I know you didn’t like it overall, but I really appreciated your review. It was thorough and articulate and had a balance of what you saw as good and bad points. It was a great compliment that you liked my writing.
Keep up the great work and I hope to enchant you better next time! *lol*

    • Hello!
Thank you for the comment and I’m glad you were able to pick up that I really did enjoy your writing. Just because the story didn’t work for me really is not a bad thing considering I’ll definitely be picking up other books of yours. Your sense of humor more than anything drew me to your writing so I’m looking forward to other works. Hope your day goes well (or better from this).. πŸ˜€

  2. Hi, Kassa! Again, I’m in awe over how much you’ve read! I myself actually dropped off the blogosphere for about a week and haven’t got much reading done, so you’re setting an excellent example for me. πŸ™‚
I read your review of Angels of the Deep with great interest! Talk about a hard book to review (due to overall complexity and having to avoid spoilers). You did an excellent, excellent job.
I myself have been reading the book over the past few weeks and wondering how I can possibly convey a sense of it in my review. Daunting! (I’m about 50 pages from the ending.)
I can’t help but think that the novel is so powerful it’s going to outclass everything else in the MLR catalog — it would have found a better home over at Harper Collins alongside Imajica by Clive Barker.

    • Hi Val πŸ™‚ I hope you’ve been enjoying your time off the blogosphere and doing something really fun! Scaling mountains, swimming with dolphins, enjoying life with a mojito πŸ˜€
I’m so glad you’re loving Angels of the Deep! It’s one of those rare, powerful books that eclipse most anything I have read. I can’t wait until you finish because we must compare notes. It’s so difficult to write a review when you can’t write about any of the twists, turns or character progressions. I think I just effused over how fabulous it was.

You hit the nail on the head right there. While there are certainly homosexual aspects in the book, even restricting to a gay romance is putting this story in an undeserving box. It’s a fabulous piece of dark, romantic fiction. Additional labels not needed IMO.
Enjoy the ride and can’t wait to compare thoughts without worrying about spoilers!

      • Hey, that sounds good (the comparing of notes)! It would definitely be fun to exchange emails about the book and have no worries about inadvertant spoilers.
I went ahead and bought the Katrina Strauss story (A Roof for the Rain) based on your review (and on Sleight of Hand, which I really enjoyed). I’m looking forward to it!
