Review: Blowjob 3: A Gay Erotic Collection

Blowjob 3: A Gay Erotic CollectionBlowjob 3: A Gay Erotic Collection by Johnny Murdoc
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A plethora of dicks in all shapes, sizes, kinds, and medias. If you are a fan of dick or you always wanted to be one, this is the collection for you! I’m a fan of Johnny Murdoc’s irreverent raunchy yet intelligent style and although I haven’t read Blow Job 1 or 2, I’m pretty satisfied after reading this one. It’s a visual treat for the eyes and mind that includes nude pictures for all the happy pervs out there. I can almost predict who I know will buy this one and they won’t be disappointed.

Review: Ghosts and Lovers

Ghosts and LoversGhosts and Lovers by Jaime Samms
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ghosts and Lovers is a very short story by Jamie Samms, just 20 pages but it’s interesting and well crafted. The main character is suffering from a degenerative condition that erodes his eyesight over time while living in the family home full of ghosts. Each person in Tim’s life has died and he clings to their ghosts for something familiar. When Tim finally realizes that his neighbor Mark could be something more, he’s torn between the cold comfort of ghosts and letting go of the past to embrace an uncertain future. Continue reading

Review: With The Band

With The BandWith The Band by L.A. Witt
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for band stories. They may not be everyone’s thing but I do love a good drama among sexy rockers (or wannabe rockers). With the Band plays on that as two members of an up and coming band get together, something that is sure to cause havoc among the tight knit group. The drama is mostly well played with a few very obvious manipulations. The story lost me on the resolution though as honestly it feels weak and too easy. This is a common issue when books build up the tension and conflict to such a fever point, then let it all wrap up in the blink of an eye. 200 pages of tension to be resolved in 5 pages just ends the book on a sour note for me. However, other than that and a few other issues, the story is easy to read and pretty satisfying.

Review: A Hundred Little Lies

A Hundred Little LiesA Hundred Little Lies by Jon Wilson
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

A Hundred Little Lies is an absorbing historical debut. This is an author I’ll keep an eye out for what they do next. The story is an easy day in the life narrative in the first person told by Jack. His bias colors the story and as the plot progresses the reader realizes that Jack may or may not be telling the truth. He’s built his life on lies so it’s difficult to tease out the truth from those lies, even within the context of the story. Thus sometimes the story assumes the reader knows more than they actually do and numerous important details are late in coming or omitted entirely. This is the weakest part of an otherwise engrossing and satisfying story. Continue reading

Review: Servant of the Crossed Arrows (Rifter, #2)

Servant of the Crossed Arrows (Rifter, #2) Servant of the Crossed Arrows (Rifter, #2) by Ginn Hale
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

For those unfamiliar with the title, this is book two of a ten part serialized fiction piece by Ginn Hale. I’ll be reviewing each book as they come out and any new readers should start at the beginning (here). While I will attempt not to include any spoilers, my reviews will assume that the readers are familiar with the characters and concepts and simply speak about that particular book in the series.

Review: Where the Allegheny Meets the Monongahela

Where the Allegheny Meets the MonongahelaWhere the Allegheny Meets the Monongahela by Felicia Watson
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I’ve read by Felicia Watson but I’ll be really interested to see what else she has to offer. WAMM (to abbreviate a real mouthful of a title) is an interesting story that reads fairly quickly. The characters are engaging and the author includes a massive amount of information on the psychology of abuse without ever lecturing to readers. Instead this information is skillfully incorporated into the story without missing a beat. The conflict is mostly internal which should please readers that enjoy angst ridden men. While that descriptor is right up my alley I found some elements kept this story from being a great read for me.

Review: Rinse and Repeat

Rinse and RepeatRinse and Repeat by Amberly Smith
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Rinse and Repeat is a fairly interesting book with a clever hook. The idea of repeating a day over and over is not necessarily new, Groundhog Day made it famous, but the story has good pacing, decent writing, and two engaging leads that make it work. There are a lot of details left unexplained and the ending is one that could be cheesy but ends up slightly creepy instead. A mostly interesting read that moves quickly and has you rooting for the men to get their happy ending.

Review: American Love Songs

American Love SongsAmerican Love Songs by Ashlyn Kane
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

American Love Songs is pretty typical band fare. The story is a rags to riches band of common everyday friends that make it big, all the way to the Grammys. The main couple is a best friends turned lovers theme very late in the story and the focus is on the hapless but lovable main character of Jake. This is an easy, light, entertaining story that reads incredibly fast but isn’t likely to have a lasting impression. I had a few qualms with the purposefully mysterious character of Parker but for an enjoyable, light romance this story should satisfy.

Review: Hot Lava

Hot LavaHot Lava by Rob Rosen
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Those fans who read the utterly delightful Divas Las Vegas by Rob Rosen know that this author can write some hilarious madcap insanity. If you haven’t read the book, seriously why not and Hot Lava follows in that lauded tradition. While I didn’t laugh out loud as much with Hot Lava, nor did I end the book kissing the ground that I’d read it (like I did with Divas), the humor and clever writing combines with a lightening fast pace to produce a fun, witty, and very entertaining light story to chase away any winter doldrums. Although I don’t think it managed the same highs as Divas, Hot Lava is an easy book to recommend and fans will definitely want to read this.
