Review: Highway Man

Highway Man
Highway Man by Eden Winters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m pretty open about my admiration and love of Eden Winters’ writing and dayum, that woman has done it again with Highway Man. Just a quick story, too quick in my opinion, that introduces some intense characters, a hint of possible love, painful pasts, and a cowboy future. Seriously I’m not sure what else the author could have included but altogether this delightful little story is wonderfully angsty, incredibly hot, and a delicious bite you won’t want to miss. Review: House of Mirrors

House of MirrorsHouse of Mirrors by Bonnie Dee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

House of Mirrors is in line with other offerings from these authors and I think fans especially will enjoy this. It’s an easy to read and likable historical with a lot of rich detail and angst to sink your teeth into. The story offers numerous memorable and vivid characters, rounding out a cast full of gritty life and heartbreak. The main romance suffers only from lack of time together but the detailed sex scenes should help readers when the two do eek out a few moments together. The ending is a bit over the top and an easy fix to some considerable problems but by then I doubt any readers will care. This isn’t a story I’d read again but it’s enjoyable and likely to hit with historical fans. Continue reading

Review: Witches’ Blood

Witches' Blood (Rifter #4)Witches’ Blood by Ginn Hale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Witches’ Blood is the fourth installment of the Rifter series and oh it’s good. The usual disclaimer applies in that you shouldn’t try to pick this story up mid-series but start at the beginning. You should be reading anyway because it’s an epic fantasy story and seriously one of the better ones I’ve read, easily standing with mainstream fantasy stories. The difference is that the Rifter series is pared down to two important storylines and two main characters that presumably have a happy ending. So it’s even better! Continue reading

Review: Bound Forever

Bound Forever (Bound, #3)Bound Forever by Ava March
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bound Forever is the third and final installment of the Bound trilogy from Ava March. The first book enchants while the second disappoints somewhat so I’m thrilled the third book delights and satisfies. The couple has come a long way over the course of the series and you’ll definitely want to read the books in order to understand the progression of their relationship and the characters themselves. They’re all short novellas with scorching hot sex so it’s no hardship. The final story is romantic, emotional, and ends the series extremely well with a HEA that will definitely please fans. Review: Finder Series, Volume 2: Cage in the Finder

Finder Series, Volume 2: Cage in the FinderFinder Series, Volume 2: Cage in the Finder by Ayano Yamane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really loved the first volume of the Finder series and pretty much almost everyone I know has raved about it. So I was really excited to get volume 2 in the mail. Unfortunately it got lost (le gasp) under some things so when I got to those forgotten boxes recently I found this delightful gem. I sat down and read it immediately, basking in the great artwork and sexy men on page. Although there is only 30 pages of the Target in the View Finder storyline the remaining two are just as good, if not better. They revolve around the characters in the first so I found it just as absorbing.

Review: Black Blades

Black Blades (Rifter, #3)Black Blades by Ginn Hale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Black Blades is the third installment of ten of the Rifter series. As with previous novellas be sure you’re reading this series in order or you’re likely to be even more confused than normal. For those fans that have been following along and are ready for part three – it’s exciting and intriguing. Hale ramps up the action and drama with an intense yet fascinating addition to the series. John’s time at the monastery is revealed in a lengthy flashback covering the second half of the book while the first goes into much more detail about Kyle aka Kahlil’s current time as he attempts to stop John’s (future) assassination.

Review: Paris A to Z

Paris A to Z (Coda Books, #6)Paris A to Z by Marie Sexton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I want to be sad that a fabulous series (Coda Books) has ended but the concluding novella, Paris A to Z, wraps everything and everyone up so well that I feel satisfied and happy. The story could have been longer and had more Jonathan and Cole but really that’s just getting greedy since the story is nearly pitch perfect in offering solid happy endings to everyone. In some ways the various arc are the inevitable conclusions to the growth that each character has over the course of the series. Angelo and Zach grow the most but then again they had the most tenuous and perhaps out there relationship. In the end there’s no doubt everyone is happy and with their intended soul mates.

Review: A Weapon Of Opportunity

A Weapon Of OpportunityA Weapon Of Opportunity by Kiernan Kelly
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Weapon of Opportunity is a whimsical, entertaining story with good characters and a quick paced mystery. In some ways the story is similar to others – the ghost lover and detective are reminiscent of Drew Zachary’s series and the astral projection is eerily close to a current horror movie Insidious. Despite those reminders this story remains interesting and enjoyable to read from start to finish. I heard somewhere this is the start of a series and if so, then definitely one to watch.

Review: Stroke to His Cox

Stroke to His CoxStroke to His Cox by J.L. Merrow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love JL Merrow’s sense of humor and even if this hadn’t been highly recommended around the blogsphere I’d want to read a book titled “Stroke to His Cox.” Yea I’m a perve but so are you so get this short delightful story. The writing is clever, witty, and full of innuendo and rowing terms. The characters are funny, entertaining, and like to twist the usual stereotypes on their heads. For a short story this packs a punch and leaves you wanting more of whatever Merrow wants to offer. Continue reading

Review: Enter Oblivion

Enter OblivionEnter Oblivion by C.M. Harris
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Enter Oblivion is a complex novel with fascinating characters. It’s a look into the life of a group of gay men in London during the early 1980s. There are rockers, meatheads, skinheads, drug users, death, hope, fame, destruction, money, romance, despair and the early threat of AIDS. The writing is steeped in British culture and language giving the city setting a vibrant feel. The characters are all flawed, messy, and complicated. There is a romance but the heart of the story is about Vince’s journey into this unknown and compelling world parallel to pop star Jik O’Blivion’s own journey within that glittery masses.
