Review: Bound Forever

Bound Forever (Bound, #3)Bound Forever by Ava March
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bound Forever is the third and final installment of the Bound trilogy from Ava March. The first book enchants while the second disappoints somewhat so I’m thrilled the third book delights and satisfies. The couple has come a long way over the course of the series and you’ll definitely want to read the books in order to understand the progression of their relationship and the characters themselves. They’re all short novellas with scorching hot sex so it’s no hardship. The final story is romantic, emotional, and ends the series extremely well with a HEA that will definitely please fans. Review: The Tourist

The TouristThe Tourist by Clare London
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Tourist is a unique premise and an interesting idea. A long dead entity can “hop” into a person’s body and heighten their sexual desires and appetites. The ghost gets the feeling of pleasure and the host body gets some uninhibited sex. Unfortunately the inherent disconnect with the concept means that you’re never sure whose emotions and thoughts are being displayed. Are they the ghost or the host’s? Additionally there are too many complications that just aren’t fleshed out very clearly to make this a wholly successful story. It is however unique and different and worth reading for that. Author Fan Letter Blog Crawl – 2011

It’s here! The Author Fan Letter Blog Crawl list!
I think all the details have been taken care of and everyone is set (though this is subject to last minute change as always) but generally this should be the list with the dates and sites.

A huge thank you to Rikki who made up this year’s button. Everyone is free to use it as they will (though it’s not mandatory that it’s used).

Review: Finder Series, Volume 2: Cage in the Finder

Finder Series, Volume 2: Cage in the FinderFinder Series, Volume 2: Cage in the Finder by Ayano Yamane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really loved the first volume of the Finder series and pretty much almost everyone I know has raved about it. So I was really excited to get volume 2 in the mail. Unfortunately it got lost (le gasp) under some things so when I got to those forgotten boxes recently I found this delightful gem. I sat down and read it immediately, basking in the great artwork and sexy men on page. Although there is only 30 pages of the Target in the View Finder storyline the remaining two are just as good, if not better. They revolve around the characters in the first so I found it just as absorbing.

Review: After the War

After the WarAfter the War by T.C. Mill
My rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

After the War is an intriguing idea but never quite pulls off the concept. The story is interesting enough to read, something slightly different in the genre but if there are better alternate universe/fantasy books. I think the story gets caught in its own circular path and forgets to actually show the reader all the little details that are clearly hiding behind the scenes. The writing is engaging though and story easy to read and if readers are looking for a quick novella just slightly out of the ordinary this could satisfy.

Review: Blowjob 3: A Gay Erotic Collection

Blowjob 3: A Gay Erotic CollectionBlowjob 3: A Gay Erotic Collection by Johnny Murdoc
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A plethora of dicks in all shapes, sizes, kinds, and medias. If you are a fan of dick or you always wanted to be one, this is the collection for you! I’m a fan of Johnny Murdoc’s irreverent raunchy yet intelligent style and although I haven’t read Blow Job 1 or 2, I’m pretty satisfied after reading this one. It’s a visual treat for the eyes and mind that includes nude pictures for all the happy pervs out there. I can almost predict who I know will buy this one and they won’t be disappointed.

Review: Black Blades

Black Blades (Rifter, #3)Black Blades by Ginn Hale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Black Blades is the third installment of ten of the Rifter series. As with previous novellas be sure you’re reading this series in order or you’re likely to be even more confused than normal. For those fans that have been following along and are ready for part three – it’s exciting and intriguing. Hale ramps up the action and drama with an intense yet fascinating addition to the series. John’s time at the monastery is revealed in a lengthy flashback covering the second half of the book while the first goes into much more detail about Kyle aka Kahlil’s current time as he attempts to stop John’s (future) assassination.

Review: No Apologies

No ApologiesNo Apologies by Tibby Armstrong
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

There’s something about No Apologies and the honest confusion of the protagonists that I just want to like. The sex scenes are beyond hot and the characters are well rounded, even if lopsided and not always sympathetic. Unfortunately the choppy and disjointed vehicle of the present movie detailing their past life (kind of) in flashbacks makes that hard. The benefits outweigh the negatives thankfully but I wish the story had made some different choices.

Euphemisms.. good or cringe worthy?

Taste in general is very subjective and reading tastes even more so. It’s impossible to please all readers but the goal – I assume – is to please most readers. In this m/m genre, there is a lot of explicit erotica. It makes up a huge portion of the genre, although not the entire genre. Yet as all those dicks rub against each other and enter various orifices in increasingly kinky and outrageous ways…the language used to describe such is always extremely important.

Whether you call it an ass, a rosebud, channel, anus, chute, hole, crack, cleft, bunghole (really? *shudder*), butthole, rectum, arse, pooper, starfish, dock, back door or anything else your wild imagination comes with each reader will have a preference.

This extends to ALL details of the sex scene. From the cocks to the ass to the cum, if the words aren’t right the readers will cringe. Some may cringe anyway and others find it hotter than ever. Once again, taste is so subjective.

Since the colorful purple prose invention, language has become much more direct and graphic when speaking about sex. Books no longer have to hide their bushels under artful and rather obvious euphemisms and the throbbing rod of steaming man love is no longer the status de jour.

Yet the erotica industry just comes up with new and more inventive ways of explaining and describing sex. Definitely far, far more creativity than visual porn, which sticks to the basics.  So in this new era of brazen sex scenes, some terms are still laughable and some are just flat out hot hot hot.

So which is which for you?

I personally like the obvious ones. A dick’s a dick – not a pole, a rod, a bat. A hard-on’s ok but if I ever see “purple-headed yogurt slinger” again I’m going on a witch hunt.

I don’t mind any term for the asshole but stay away from the obvious references: rectum, chute, channel. And anything that says “shit-eating” during a sex scene. Doesn’t matter if it’s a grin or a literal interpretation of salad-tossing, it doesn’t belong please!

These are just a few of my personal choices and that doesn’t mean it suits everyone. Some readers can’t stand the term dick (I assume those don’t read m/m) but I definitely don’t speak for everyone.

So what do YOU like dear readers? Which terms turn you on and which make you throw the book?

Do you like your cum or do you prefer watery essence of love’s true devotion?
What about the pretty rosebud just waiting to be eaten?

Review: Ghosts and Lovers

Ghosts and LoversGhosts and Lovers by Jaime Samms
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ghosts and Lovers is a very short story by Jamie Samms, just 20 pages but it’s interesting and well crafted. The main character is suffering from a degenerative condition that erodes his eyesight over time while living in the family home full of ghosts. Each person in Tim’s life has died and he clings to their ghosts for something familiar. When Tim finally realizes that his neighbor Mark could be something more, he’s torn between the cold comfort of ghosts and letting go of the past to embrace an uncertain future. Continue reading
